Artist Puppets 2007

puppets

For this grant I wrote a proposal to have students research an artist and then create a puppet in the likeness of that artist. The students created a Power Point presentation for their research and printed out a photo or painting OF the artist to work from. The next step was to create head, hands and feet from clay, and paint them. Then they made a body and clothing from fabric and stuffing. Finally all the parts were connected together with string and glue. The grant was for purchase of a marionette How-to books for my classroom library, dowels, clay, string and a sewing machine. Supplies already on hand included fabric, paints, yarn and other embellishing supplies.

Claymation 2006

For the Year 2005-2006 We received a grant from the Everett Education Foundation to support Claymation in my classes. I created “Sound Stages” with foam core. The students created backdrops and props. They also built their own clay characters using foil and cardboard for armatures. We used digital cameras on tripods to take still pictures and then edited them in Windows Movie Maker for the final productions.

For this grant the proposal was to have students adapt fairy tales into clay animation.  The students rewrote the story and created a story board, clay characters, props and backgrounds. The next step was to take pictures of slow movement in increments. The pictures were then scanned and formatted, and imported into MS Movie Maker. Students edited the images into a very fast slide show that imitates stop-motion animation. They added titles and credits and music and sounds. The grant covered the purchase of claymation How-to books for my classroom library, a camera, tripod, clay, foil and set building supplies like foam core. Supplies already on hand included fabric, paints, yarn and other background and prop building supplies.

Some resources I created/adapted: ~note March 2010~ I have lost the digital copies of these resources and need to recreate them. So for now they are not avilable. I will try to do this during spring break.~

Some You Tube Claymation examples that are age appropriate: (These are not by my students. I selected them because they are simple and within the skill set of my students… believe me you can get lost for hours looking at animation on You Tube…so beware!)

Teacher Tube (http://www.teachertube.com/) is a great alternative to You Tube to see and post student work. Here are some claymation by students posted by their teachers.

Garfield Park Grant Project 2006

This grant was written and managed by the community group. They received support from STARBUCKS to revitalize a local park. Our artwork will be turned into a metal sculpture entry way to the four corners of the park. I have a separate site that has instructional videos and a gallery of the tiles.

Gallery of tiles here and additional information and videos can be found here. ~sorry links need to be repaired~

Bilingual Fairy Tale Project 2005

For this grant I wrote a proposal to have students adapt fairy tales, rewrite them using 2 languages. The students rewrote the story and illustrate them. After scanning the pictures, they used MS Publisher to format them and add the text. Then the printed them in color and hand bound them into books. The grant was for purchase of  bookbinding How-to books for my classroom library, scanner, printer, ink and book binding supplies like bone folders and awls. Supplies already on hand included paper, colored pencils, fairy tale books and other drawing supplies.

Fairy Tale gallery of Artwork… just the illustrations. ~link not working… I am rebuilding my gallery for this project~
